Today in Times Square, New York a car bomb was found. Everyone in the area was evacuated as a precaution whilr they dismantled the device. The police officers said it was a crude bomb and that no real motive for exploding times square was found. This scares me that materials for making a bomb are so easily accessed around the world and I am thankfull that the police found the bomb in time.

Faster internet speed coming this way!
Well it has been in the news recently that the government is looking at replacing the copper wires that carry New Zealand's internet data into fibre optic cables. This while make the speed of internet about five times faster than it is now! On my laptop that would be awesome!!! I am very sorry to say however that it may not be in Kerikeri until 2013 or something like that. :(

Pensioners to pay parking fine from 1988
On the news page of msn.co.nz I found a rather interesting story about a retired couple who is being made to pay $324 of unpaid fines from 22 years ago. Trish Latham had $40 of unpaid fines from the Christchurch city council that have been slowly and steadily gaining interest to get to $324 that it is now. I find this really amusing that the councils system somewhere in those 22 years had not sent out a letter beforehand to Mrs Latham. I think that fines unpaid for over ten years shouldn't get to that point and that thwe council should focus on more recent fines.

Social Studies this year.
Well I have Miss Bowers again, which is good because I know her and her teaching style. It sounds like a very interesting year for us, topic wise. There is human rights, current events and the Treaty of Waitangi thrown into the mix. What times I have social studies is good too, because only one is second period, the rest are before lunch!

$2 challenge
Well in term two we had a challenge that we were given $2 and we had to make as much money as possible out of that money.
Who: Yasmin, Nadia, Abby (me), Nadia's Mum, my Mum, my sister and my brother.
What: We made pet rocks/paper weights. We collected smooth pebbles and painted them, we also added googly eyes and pipe cleaners to make animals.
When: We made the pet rocks on the 7th of May and sold them on the 9th.
Where: We sold them on the main street of Kerikeri.
How: The equipment we used was an old tray, my mum's paint, $2, smooth pebbles, pipe cleaners and googly eyes. The labour was four hours.
Costs:
$6 craft supplies and paint.
We did not have any float money.
The cost per item was 50 cents for small, $1 for medium and $2 for large.
We needed to sell $1 rocks x 6 = breakeven.
Forecast:
My aim is to sell 30 rocks
How much profit did I make:
We made a profit of $50.90
